About Us
Litigation Economics, LLC is an economic consulting and litigation support firm. Our staff includes experts in economics, accounting, and finance. We advise attorneys regarding damages and provide testimony in legal hearings. Collectively, our professionals have decades of consulting and expert testimony experience. We develop and present economic damages reports for plaintiffs or critique such reports for defense counsel. Credibility before judges, jurors, mediators and arbitrators is the most essential factor a Litigation Economics witness provides. Managing Principal

Stanley P. Stephenson, Ph.D. Economics, has provided economic litigation services in more than 200 cases. His background includes academic, corporate, economic consulting, and government positions. He was Associate Professor of Economics and Business Administration, The Pennsylvania State University; AVP, Aetna International, Inc.; Managing Director, MESA, Inc., a New York City economic consulting firm; and Regional Commissioner, Bureau of Labor Statistics, San Francisco Region.

 
Principal

Carl S. Smith, Ph.D., CPA, Professor of Accounting, University of Hartford. Dr. Smith helped value gasoline dealer operations arising from franchise dispute between ARCO and the Connecticut Gasoline Dealers Association using an excess return method to assess goodwill. His expertise is in tax, cost accounting and business valuation. He was a designated expert in a breach of contract case involving lost royalty payments and commercial cases involving lost profit damages for high-tech companies. In addition to his other duties, he serves as Chair, Institute of Management Accountants, a professional society with 70,000 members worldwide.

 
Principal

David A. Macpherson, Ph.D., Rod and Hope Brim Eminent Scholar of Economics, Florida State University. Dr. Macpherson has provided economic litigation services in more than 30 cases. He has provided estimates of economic damages in cases involving breach of contract, personal injury, wrongful death, and employment-related claims. In addition, he has provided analysis for several cases that involved statistical sampling issues.

Kirk Pischel, MBA, CMA, CFM, is an experienced financial analyst who supports damages assessments for LE clients in complex commercial and tort litigation. His background includes both permanent and interim executive positions as Director of Finance/Controller for several financial services firms. Recent cases have involved lost earnings capacity in personal injury & wrongful death, lost profits in commercial fishing, and rent losses in a large construction defect case.
